Since on December 1, 2021, the sorting rules have changed for a better harmonization of sorting in France. Concretely, the rest of France is encouraged to better sort its waste, particularly packaging. Conversely, in Châteauroux and in the agglomeration, because the sorting was already very well done, some packaging now goes in the normal (gray) bin, with the waste. An adaptation that must be respected.
New rules since December 1
“In the packaging bin today, there is all the supermarket packaging, i.e. plastics, cartons, cans, aluminum” explains Alexandre Bros, operations manager in the cleanliness department, who continues, “on the other side we have household waste, bathroom waste and possibly leftover meals if they have not been composted”.
Why sort your trash properly?
Overall sorting is well respected in Châteauroux and its agglomeration, except in collective housing, this is what notes Vincent Bonneau, the collection manager of Châteauroux Métropole. Problems remain in “buildings with service providers who take out the trash but do not systematically check what is put in the trash” he explains, the problem is that “we collect at the same time users who sort well and collectives who sort badly.”
Gold, besides the danger of poor sorting (glass, syringe-type medical waste) which can cause accidents for rippers, poor sorting in the “dry” bin is also wasted effort: those of the neighbors! “If there is too much wet, it is treated as wet! All the efforts of others who are collected before you or after you have not been of much use!” recalls Vincent Bonneau.
Red stickers and pedagogy
For bad sorters, Sébastien Brouard, ripper, distributes dunce caps, in this case : a big red sticker. On this warning is noted the error, and, moreover, the tray is not collected. “This is the case, for example, if there is glass in the “wet” (gray) bin”. However, he does not put a lot of it because he also favors dialogue: “we try to do prevention, we discuss with people, and generally afterwards they pay attention”.
For the moment, in the most extreme cases, this gives rise to a special collection, charged at 100 euros. The propeté police wanted by the municipality and the metropolis will be put in place as soon as the decree is published in the Official Journal, and it will be able to apply a system of fines in the event of non-compliance with the sorting rules. There is no set date yet for its implementation.
