Russian-speaking hackers were behind a cyberattack targeting the Cannes hospital two weeks ago. The group made ransom threats and carried them out.

A massive data theft affected the Simone Veil hospital center in Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes). More than 60 gigabytes of medical documents were stolen and published on the internet. Data concerning identity cards, medical assessments, pay slips, and even psychological evaluations were stolen. “The challenge is that a mound of data has been published online. The hospital is analyzing it to warn patients and tell what posture everyone will have to take”explains a caregiver.

Other hacks took place

The hospital has filed a complaint and an investigation is underway. The Cannes hospital is not the first to be hit by a major cyberattack: a few months ago, more than 800 bank identity statements were hacked at the Armentières hospital (North).
