A train station has been transformed into a luxury hotel in Canfranc, on the border between Spain and France. Abandoned in the 1970s, the place is now spectacular with its monumental station perched high, nicknamed the Titanic of the Pyrenees.

The village of Canfranc (Spain) and its monumental station was in its time one of the largest stations in Europe. Sized for international traffic, it fell into disuse to the point of ruin, before being completely redone into a 5-star hotel. The project was grandiose, and was inaugurated in 1928, notably by the King of Spain. It was to allow travelers and goods to connect Madrid directly to Paris.

An art deco atmosphere

The line was destroyed in 1970 by an accident on the French side. It has never been redone and since then the 24 kilometers still separate Canfranc from the French route. Inspired by the art deco style, a powerful Spanish group has been able to recreate an atmosphere in this exceptional place. The standard is indeed that of the 5 international stars with always a touch of originality such as the original windows of the station reused in interior decoration.
