The size of ten times the city of Paris, the Roncador farm in Brazil covers 100,000 hectares of fields and meadows. Despite its gigantism, it is a good student with environmental protection organizations.
In the heart of the State of Mato Grosso (Brazil), is the Roncador farm. Fruit of the colonization of the Amazon, it extends over 100,000 hectares. The 800 kilometers of track that crosses the farm reveal a bus station, several villages, a school and a church. More than 1,000 employees work on the farm. The farm should produce 112 million kg of soybeans this year, for an equivalent of 60 million euros in turnover. In addition, 70,000 oxen are raised there.
Crop rotation
Obliged to protect 50% of its territory in native forest, the Roncador farm is a good student with environmental protection organizations, thanks to its crop rotation system. Over the past four years, under the mandate of Jair Bolsonaro, deforestation has broken records. Lula’s new government will have to try to reconnect with the powerful agricultural lobby, while keeping its promise to reduce deforestation to 0% by 2030.
