A somewhat special home work: she comes to your home in the Côtes d’Armor in Belle-Isle-en-Terre, Bourbriac, Saint-Brieuc or Lannion. Isabelle Rousset is a doula and accompanies mothers during their pregnancy but especially after, up to 40 days. But who are the doulas that even the Good Doctor TV series currently airing in France talks about and who have even convinced Meghan Markle and Prince Harry?
In Bourbriac, Isabelle Rousset created “Iza Doula, post-natal Dessine moi un village”. She is neither a caregiver nor a coach, rather a companion, having trained online with a Quebec organization, specializing in support after childbirth. She offers emotional follow-up, provides advice, mother the mother, protects her bubble so that she can devote herself to the child, organize wellness sessions, encourage spouses, even offer to cook adapted to the home. A significant investment: € 45 per session and € 790 for full support – not reimbursed, but payable in CESU (Chèque Emploi Service Universel) – but an investment for the mother’s health and to avoid exhaustion, according to Isabelle.
Doula is originally a Greek word meaning slave, a maid who looked after the health care of the hostess, including pregnancy and childbirth. Isabelle Rousset adds the notion of village, to encourage the mother to surround herself with supportive people, like education in the past or in certain African cultures.
Isabelle launched a “Draw me a village” kitty on kengo.bzh in order to finance equipment, cooking, yoga or baby carriers.
