At the end of March, the Russian army left the kyiv region (Ukraine), leaving behind devastation and desolation. Since then, some are now trying to look to the future. This is the case in Borodyanka, northwest of the capital.

As if experiencing the horror wasn’t enough, now is the time to fix what it leaves behind. The destruction is immense in Borodyanka (Ukraine), the site will be just as much. Nearly 40% of buildings are affected. The reconstruction seems insurmountable, the city is however convinced that it is possible. In a district, craftsmen are responsible for launching what is the first step: the demolition of housing that is too damaged. “We are condemning the gas pipes so that the other services can intervene, raze the buildings and rebuild new ones”explains a craftsman.

Once the search for victims is complete, work can begin. It will take months, probably years, to bring life back. Some are willing to wait as long as it takes. But how to erase the traces of the Russian occupation when everything is missing, because the war continues? “We lack manpower and machines”, explains a worker. They would need reinforcements. When this is still possible, the inhabitants hasten to repair the furniture, the entrance doors broken by the Russians. The reconstruction of Borodyanka will also depend on the financial means that will be granted to it.
