Most seaside resorts are faced with a shortage of doctors, when their summer population is multiplied by an average of ten times compared to the rest of the year. In Biscarrosse, in the Landes, two emergency doctors were called in for reinforcement for the summer.

In Biscarrosse (moors)in a reception and first aid centre, the cases of small injuries to holidaymakers have been increasing since the beginning of the summer. “I went to see the doctor, it was closed. I called, no answer. And so, suddenly, an emergency doctor is impeccable“, says a woman. To Biscarrosse, the population is multiplied by seven each summer, and the need for doctors increases with.

The city’s health center, and the two emergency doctors who work there, allow the flow of patients to be regulated, avoiding overloading the general practitioners, but also the emergency department of La Teste-de-Buch (Gironde). In the evening, in Biscarrosse, except for the doctors at the centre, there has been no doctor for ten days. Their presence is therefore necessary. Even out of season, the population of Biscarrosse tends to grow. Finding new doctors is a challenge for the municipality, which would like to see the center sustain its activity throughout the year.
