The library of the Abbey of Adamt, in Austria, contains 70,000 works. This place, soon to be a thousand years old, is also an attraction for social media influencers.

Nestled in the heart of the Austrian Alps, the Abbaye d’Admont seems very sober and discreet. However, it conceals an architectural treasure, its library. 70,000 books are skilfully lined up between trompe-l’oeil frescoes and linden wood sculptures. On the ground, the marble checkerboard symbolizes the steps to access knowledge, visitors are often left speechless when discovering the place.

A highly sought-after place on the internet

Influencers have transformed the library into photo sets for social networks, enough to attract a little more people each year. “When you have to look for beautiful images of books and libraries, this is the one that stands out the most on the internet and social networks. That’s why we came here”, says a visitor. But the library is not only a photo studio, it is also a workplace for the 24 monks of the abbey. Among these books, 2,000 medical works had been used by Nazi Germany to learn more about listed poisonous plants.
