In Arnay-le-Duc, the Lime Museum attracts the curious for the European Heritage Days

The Lime Museum, yes it exists! An unusual place that it is possible to visit in Arnay-le-Duc (Côte-d’Or) especially during the European Heritage Days on September 17 and 18, 2022. During this event, we would tend to go to the essentials such as the Museum of Fine Arts in Dijon, the castles of Châteauneuf-en-Auxois or the Hospices de Beaune. But that’s the magic of the concept, discovering more unusual, lesser-known places.

A place of memory

The museum was opened in 2019 by the “Mémoires de la lime” association. It makes it possible to take stock of the lime manufacturing activity which has been essential in the municipality. Between 1845 and 1958, in the factory and until 1977 in artisanal production. Through the visit of the only room of the museum, we discover hammers, machines, and then a collection of 500 files. And of all kinds. Ranging from the tiny, intended for watchmakers, to the large designed to file the teeth of horses. The little extra of this museum? Its president. Raymond Thierry tells with passion the life of these objects.
