While six million French people are still not vaccinated, some territories show a lower vaccination rate than others. In Ardèche, vaccination is ten percentage points below the French average.

For several days, the rural department of Ardèche has experienced a surge in Covid-19 contaminations. Of the 100,000 inhabitants of a city, 203 cases have already been detected. This rise follows a relaxation of barrier gestures and a still very low vaccination rate. “I consider myself in good health and I do not see the point of being vaccinated. We do not have enough perspective on the vaccine”, testifies a resident of Annonay. In the city market, the mask is again compulsory.

Some residents are shocked by the low vaccination rate in the region. “For me, they are selfish and unconscious”, says an elderly person. Pharmacies are struggling to convince customers who are skeptical about the vaccine. “At the moment, we don’t do much anymore”, testifies Stéphane Chuy, pharmacist in Annonay. If the city hospital has not seen its activity jostled, it still has two patients with covid-19, including a fifty-year-old in intensive care.
