They brought in 2 billion euros to the State last year. Radars have never been so profitable, there are more and more of them everywhere in the country. For example, the Ardèche has three radars over a few kilometers which are flashing like crazy.
Be careful, you are caught. It’s impossible to escape the radars on a departmental road in Ardèche which flash in both directions: there are three over 8 km only between Privas and Chomérac. Some motorists are exasperated. These radars are preventive: last year, 23 fatal accidents took place, due in particular to excessive speed, or 73% more in one year.
Mobile radars
The prefecture has just installed a final radar which can be easily moved along the departmental road. In the village of Chomérac, this initiative is the talk of the local café. But these radars are useful according to the mayor. With two radars in his commune, he is the departmental champion of prevention, even if the decision comes from the prefecture. This has decided to increase the number of mobile radars on the roads of Ardèche.
