“My painting is rock” likes to repeat Robert Combas. So in 2011, he created, with his accomplice, the visual artist Lucas Mancione, the group Les Sans Pattes. A musical adventure where art is always present.
On the stage of the Bonlieu cultural center, they are four. Two newbies have joined The Legless. Marc Duran, a painter who is also a punk rock musician, and Lionel Martin, saxophonist and jazz composer. Four artist friends, free and quirky, who meet for concerts where the experimental, the underground predominate. The notes fly away and the words intersect against a backdrop of hypnotizing images. “It’s an organized mess” humorously tells Lucas Mancione, the band’s guitarist. “These are, for example, lyrics that we turn around because there are two sides. We could do otherwise, but these are things that are part of the performance” he adds.
Robert Combas sees in this concert “a music-hall side”. “There are instruments that are fake, others real. It’s made for the show” he explains. Art also has its place. For each piece played, the leader of the “Free figure” painted the fixed or moving images which are projected onto the stage or onto the performers. Alongside this musical performance, Bonlieu Scène nationale presents a set of sculptures and paintings by Robert Combas in the theater premises until November 19, 2022.
The Leglessin concert in Annecy, Bonlieu National Stage, until November 12, 2022.
