(Beijing) The World Junior Hockey Championship will be held in Canada next August, International Ice Hockey Federation President Luc Tardif said Thursday.
Posted at 4:19 p.m.
The tournament began in December in Edmonton and Red Deer but ended after four days due to COVID-19 concerns.
“It will be (resumed) in mid-August in Alberta,” said Tardif. The results of the competition started in December will not be taken into account. »
The championship will feature players who are part of national clubs at that time (December), even if they reach the age of 20 before the upcoming tournament.
“It’s going to be a hockey party and the teams can’t wait to get involved,” said Tardif.
The event will be organized after the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, which will take place during the first week of August, in Edmonton and Red Deer.
Tardif added that the women’s U18 tournament, scheduled in Sweden last September, will take place in June in the United States.
In addition, he said he was optimistic about the idea of an agreement between the FIGHT and the NHL so that the players of the Bettman circuit take part in the Italian Olympiad of 2026.
The league’s last appearance at the Olympics dates back to 2014, in Sochi.
