In Ajaccio, Sting invites the greatest Corsican musicians and ignites the Aiò festival

On the occasion of his international tour, the British musician stopped off at the Théâtre de Verdure to offer his fans a great musical moment on the Isle of Beauty.

It’s an event they wouldn’t have missed for anything in the world: fans of the singer Sting had a great time in Ajaccio. Guest of the Aiò festival, the Anglo-Saxon musician was in concert on Thursday, August 1st in front of more than 6,700 spectators.

Around 11:15pm, the spectators left delighted to have been able to see the British star. One of them “don’t regret coming”. “It’s magical to have been able to see him so close. He’s a legend. We’re not likely to see him again any time soon”, he continues.

“Extraordinary”, “Magic”, “awesome” : There was no shortage of superlatives after the concert. During the two-hour show, Sting played his own songs and sang along to hits by his band The Police. Hits that have remained etched deep in the memories of fans and Message in the bottle which sets the pit ablaze. “A great concert, it’s like when we were young, we went back in time” rejoices a spectator. “Still the same voice, as it was before during his glorious years”, adds another fan.

The concert reached its peak when Sting invited two Corsican musical monuments on stage. With Jean-François Bernardini from the group I Muvrini, he recreated their duet around the song Fields of gold.

A few minutes later, it was his old friend, guitarist Henry Padovani, who entered the stage. This musician from Bastia was none other than one of the founding members of the group Police with Sting and Stewart Copeland in the late 1970s.

For the programmers of the Aiò festival, closing five days of celebration with Sting is one of the most beautiful events in the history of the island of beauty.“He brought joy to almost 7,000 people in Ajaccio, we have just held the biggest concert in the history of Corsica with the biggest star to ever perform in Corsica. What happened once could perhaps, with luck and a lot of work, happen again,” hopes Michel Marti, organizer of the festival.
