Montreal Canadiens prospect Cole Caufield finally found the back of the net on Saturday afternoon with the Laval Rocket.
The forward beat Utica Comets goalie Nico Daws from a tight angle with a shot of surgical precision.
The streak caused confusion on the ice, but Caufield had no doubts in his mind as he immediately began to celebrate.
The small striker at the same time replied to the manager of the Twitter account of the Utica Comets, who had taunted Caufield by suggesting that he is invisible on the ice last Sunday.
The message had raised an uproar, so much so that it was suppressed by the Comets. But Caufield allowed himself to have the last word.
Heading into Saturday’s meeting, Caufield still hadn’t scored in four games for the Rocket since his demotion to the American League. And before that, he hadn’t scored in 10 games for the Montreal Canadiens since the start of the season.
His last goal was in the 2021 playoff semifinals between the Canadiens and the Vegas Golden Knights.
As for the game, it was ultimately won by the Comets by a score of 5-3.
Thus, the Rocket ends his streak of three games played at home with two wins against a setback. The team also saw their winning streak come to a halt at three to show a 6-6-1 record.
The club will now head to Ontario, where they face the Marlies in Toronto on Wednesday. He will then cross swords with the Senators in Belleville on Saturday.
