In a galaxy near you | A documentary miniseries to celebrate 25 years

The spaceship Romano Fafard Does it have a rearview mirror? We hope so, since its crew will take a look at it in a documentary miniseries aimed at highlighting the 25e birthday of In a galaxy near you.

Piloted by Matthieu Pepper, a fan of the late satirical-space series from Canal Famille (the former VRAK), this throwback will land on Crave in 2024, possibly in the spring.

Titled In a galaxy near you: 25 years of mission, the series will have three one-hour episodes and will bring together Guy Jodoin, Sylvie Moreau, Didier Lucien, Stéphane Crête, Mélanie Maynard, Réal Bossé, Pascale Montpetit, Paul Ahmarani and Claude Legault. Isabelle Brossard, who played the psychologist Valence Leclerc at the very beginning of the adventure, before being replaced by Sylvie Moreau, will also participate in the project.

Due to everyone’s varying schedules, finding a time to film this big reunion proved to be a headache. Some actors are particularly busy, like Claude Legault, who will reconnect with the team of Bye after finishing the filming ofAbout Antoine.

The headliners would however be “happy” to be brought together, something that has not happened since the theatrical release of the second feature film, in 2008.

“The actors feel blessed that we are taking time to mark the 25th anniversary of the show,” explains producer Caroline Lavoie, reached by telephone.

Filming

Produced by Zone 3 (Infoman, In the media) in collaboration with Bell Media, the documentary series In a galaxy near you: 25 years of mission is produced by Étienne Fournier (Restaurant, Sweety salty). Filming, which has just started, will last until early 2024.

Like any good project of its kind, we promise to show the underside of the work created by Claude Legault and Pierre-Yves Bernard.

The actors will remember some memorable scenes and iconic lines from the cult project. The artistic direction (costumes, sets) will also be highlighted.

Other topics that will be discussed include nostalgia for the early 2000s, the pro-environmental framework behind the original premise (in 2034, we are looking for a new planet to welcome humanity since the Earth has become too polluted) and the impact of the show.

Aerospace engineer Farah Alibay will also be interviewed.

“We want to please the fans, and make those who haven’t followed the series realize how it left its mark,” says Caroline Lavoie. In 1999, children’s television was flourishing. We used an offbeat humor that we no longer use today. »

A quest

Zone 3 was looking for a show fan to host the documentary series. The name Matthieu Pepper emerged naturally. In a galaxy near you: 25 years of mission will present the comedian’s quest to understand why the comico-intergalactic odyssey had such an impact on him. When Matthew Pepper was younger, he fell asleep every night watching late-night reruns of In a galaxy near you, Caroline Lavoie informs us. “ In a galaxy really rocked him. It was his gang, his friends. »

“The series influenced him so much that he became a comedian, and he wrote his own series, Between two sheets », adds the producer.

In 2023, after four seasons, a comic strip and two feature films, In a galaxy near you enjoys a popularity that refuses to die. On Facebook, fans of the show (who call themselves the “Duggies”) continue to be active. A third feature film is also in the works, which should delight the “gang of tatas who constitute the human race”.
