“A major event for culture and music in France”. In a press release sent to AFP, Rachida Dati, current Minister of Culture, affirms her desire to organize in 2025 a major tribute to the composer Pierre Boulez, the coming year marking the centenary of his birth.
Died in 2016, Pierre Boulez “has left his mark on the world of contemporary creation. His work, avant-garde and innovative, has influenced numerous composers around the world, as has his commitment as a conductor aimed at constantly confronting past repertoires and to become”, she writes.
A commemoration looking to the future
Rachida Dati “entrust the mission to Laurent Bayle”, in connection with the succession of Pierre Boulez, to prepare a commemoration “which will not be limited to a tribute to the past and to the work of Boulez”, but will also “an exploration of the future, questioning Boulez’s legacy in relation to contemporary creation and the new generation of musicians”.
The former general director of the Cité de la musique-Philharmonie de Paris, who was also president of the contemporary music festival Musica and director of the Acoustic/Music Coordination Research Institute co-founded by Pierre Boulez, “maintained privileged professional relations with the composer”, underlines the minister.
For Rachida Dati, “no one better than Pierre Boulez has succeeded in embodying the role of the builder who strongly contributed to the transformation of the entire French musical landscape.” Last week, when presenting its next season, the Philharmonie de Paris announced concerts and conferences in honor of Pierre Boulez.
