Many households are faced with these serious hazards of life: having to completely or partially stop work to be able to care for a child suffering from a serious illness or victim of an accident. The insurers undertake to cover the monthly mortgage payments for the parents concerned, who have subscribed to the contract including the “family assistance” guarantee. It will cover all or part of the monthly payments.while the insured, forced to partially or completely cease his professional activity, will be able to take care of a “minor child suffering from a serious illness or victim of a serious accident”.

Insurers plan to introduce this “family assistance” guarantee into at least one of their borrower insurance contracts. All you need to do is take out “temporary incapacity for work” coverage. This borrower insurance currently operates in the event of temporary incapacity for work, but also disability or death. Expanding to families affected by a child’s illness is real progress. The new system must be operational by the end of the first half of 2025 at the latest.

Between 3,000 and 4,000 households affected

Last spring, associations and parliamentarians launched an appeal. The latter was heard in particular by the Banque de France which initiated the process. Last week, a positive opinion was given by the Financial Sector Advisory Committee which depends on the Central Bank. Only one company offers this system today: CNP Assurances (subsidiary of Banque Postale)

According to the associations and parliamentarians behind the request, each year there are at least 10,000 families in France whose parents are forced to stop or reduce their activity to care for a child suffering from a serious illness. or accident victim. Of this total, between 3,000 and 4,000 families are involved in the process of repaying a property loan.
