In Pézenas, the year 2022 will take place under the sign of Bobby Lapointe and Molière ! One was born in the town of Hérault, the other acquired its letters of nobility there, as Marcel Pagnol wrote: “Jean-Baptiste Poquelin was born in Paris, Molière was born in Pézenas“.
Several highlights will be organized during the year: first weekend of festivities, January 14, anniversary date of Molière’s birth. The second will take place on April 15, Bobby Lapointe’s birthday. The mayor of Pézenas Armand Rivière is delighted: “Their two birthdays fall on Saturdays! With the luck we have, the weather will be fine, that’s for sure!“
This year will also be an opportunity to represent for the first time on stage a theater text “Le Baru du square”, written by Bobby Lapointe. His granddaughter Dany Lapointe can’t wait: “It has never been played, we can’t wait to see what it looks like on stage. Bobby Lapointe, man of the theater, it’s a new string to his bow!“
One of the highlights of this year is also the 17th century historical representation of Molière which will take place in the streets of Pézenas in September, during European Heritage Days.
Robert Vivarès is deputy mayor responsible for culture and popular knowledge: “Our dream is that there is nobody in town clothes anymore. Everyone will be in costume, there will be theatrical scenes, songs, dances, we have to believe it!“
