More than 300,000 refrigeration and air conditioning units are improperly recycled in Quebec, according to GoRecycle, causing the release of more than 300,000 tonnes of GHGs per year.

The organization, recognized by Recyc-Québec, takes charge of the recovery and recycling of refrigerators, freezers, refrigerating cellars, wine coolers, water dispensers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers in order to adequately treat gases and swelling agents.
When these devices are left on the side of the street, the gases they contain are released into the atmosphere, causing the release of approximately one tonne of greenhouse gases for a single device.
So that they can be recycled, it is now possible to drop off old devices at 260 drop-off points throughout Quebec.
GoRecycle was set up last year by retailers and manufacturers to meet the requirements of Quebec legislation, but its activities were officially launched with the general public earlier this week.
