In the United Kingdom, Germany and Poland, the wind and the waves caused a lot of material damage. Despite the high level of alert, at least six deaths are to be deplored.

Waves several meters high unleashed and carried by winds up to 200 km/h. Red alert in the south of the United Kingdom, a sight that attracts curious walkers, despite the danger: “It’s a once in a lifetime experience”. The United Kingdom suffered the onslaught of storm Eunice at dawn. The wind tore down the steeple of a church in the southwest of England and tore the jail from a roof in London. The deserted British capital has been placed on red alert for the very first time. For the few Londoners on the streets, every step is uncertain in the face of the violence of the wind. Trains, ferries and more than 400 flights have been cancelled.

Belgium was also affected. In Tournai, a crane collapsed on the hospital, injuring several people. Eunice is the second storm to sweep across northern Europe in 48 hours, after Dudley. On a ferry in Hamburg, Germany, the windows broke under the force of the waves. Storm Dudley hit Poland hard. Within minutes, residents saw their homes devastated: “It’s as if stones were falling from the sky. In a few seconds it was swirling in all directions”. “Tonight Europe deplores at least six deaths following the passage of Eunice. The winds are now heading east of the continent towards Denmark”explains Maëlys Septembre, special correspondent.
