The ongoing strike of writers and actors in Hollywood does not allow production teams to continue filming Mission: Impossible 8, where Tom Cruise reprises the role of Ethan Hunt. Expected on screens on June 28, 2024, the film will not be released, according to Paramount Pictures, until May 23, 2025.
Change of title
Many other productions, notably blockbusters, are experiencing the same fate, while negotiations between studios and unions are underway. This allotted time could be useful for the film, whose title has changed. Indeed, Mission: Impossible 8 is no longer presented as a sequel to Dead Reckoning Part 1and will have a title independent of its previous one, while remaining its sequel.
The score of $600 million in global box office revenue Mission: Impossible 7 was somewhat disappointing for Paramount, even though it is one of the best opuses in the franchise. In Dead Reckoning part 1, Ethan Hunt searches for a revolutionary weapon that nations compete for, and which could fall into the wrong hands. The film ended with the expectation of a sequel.
Schedule modification
Paramount Studios also postponed the release of A Quiet Place: Day Onethe prequel to Without a sound (2018), on the origins of the fearsome extraterrestrial invasion, the subject of the first opus. The film is expected in theaters on June 28, 2024 instead of March 8, 2024. Paramount’s latest schedule change, the release of Yew, by director John Krasinski, has been advanced. Fantasy comedy with Ryan Reynolds and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, it will be on screens on May 17, 2024 instead of May 24, 2024.
