(Tyler) The father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes pleaded guilty Tuesday to drunken driving charges in Texas, court documents showed.
The Smith County District Court said Patrick Mahomes, 54, pleaded guilty to driving while impaired in Tyler, Texas. The documents do not specify the specifics of the penalty imposed, but a local media outlet reported that both parties agreed to a five-year license suspension.
A hearing on the matter is scheduled for September 23.
Mahomes’ attorney and the district attorney did not return messages from The Associated Press seeking comment in the case.
The Chiefs quarterback’s father was arrested for drunken driving in February in Tyler, about 90 miles southeast of Dallas, just over a week after his son led his team to a second straight Super Bowl.
Mahomes is a repeat offender, having been arrested three times before for impaired driving, and court documents indicate he was also arrested in July for driving without a valid driver’s license.
Patrick Mahomes is a former major league pitcher who played for six teams during his 11-season career that ended in 2003, according to Baseball Reference.
