An expected decision. Immunocompromised people, at risk of a severe form of Covid-19 and for whom vaccination is not effective enough can now obtain free FFP2 masks from pharmacies, according to a decree published on Wednesday February 2 in the Official Journal.
To be able to benefit from it, these people must present a medical prescription to the pharmacist. They will receive 20 masks for two weeks or 50 masks for five weeks. Severely immunocompromised people in France represent “between 10% and 30%” patients in intensive care, explained on franceinfo Yvanie Caillé, founder of Renaloo, an association of patients with kidney disease. Between “200,000 and 300,000 persons” are considered as “severely immunocompromised in France”she added.
The publication of the decree coincides with the first stage of lifting health restrictions in France. From Wednesday, wearing a mask is no longer compulsory outdoors, the gauges in places open to the seated public, in particular stadiums and cultural establishments, are abandoned and teleworking is no longer imposed, but only recommended.
