“It is no longer possible for us to provide safe and quality care to the population normally served by our establishment,” declared Ms. Johanne Riendeau, president of the West Island Health Care Professionals Union. -de-Montréal, quoted in a press release published on Friday.
According to her, at least half of the nurses are missing on several shifts. On Friday evening, the emergency room occupancy rate reached 139%, according to data from Health Index.
Consequently, the Union “asks the population to avoid coming to the Lakeshore General Hospital for the weekend”.
“Fighting with an emergency personnel issue for months, healthcare professionals are sounding the alarm for the umpteenth time,” reads the press release from the Fédération interprofessionnelle de la santé du Québec-FIQ.
The workers challenge the government of Quebec and ask for “incentives to be able to get through the summer” as well as “safe ratios to provide quality care”.
