Nearly a month before the submission of the 2025 annual immigration plan, the Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) urges the Legault government to take temporary immigrants into account and thus demonstrate more planning in its objective of reducing the number immigrants welcomed each year in Quebec.
According to the spokesperson for the official opposition on immigration, francization and integration, André A. Morin, temporary immigration is not taken into account by the government even though it represents “a number large number of temporary immigrants.
“The Legault government is looking in the wrong place and should tell Quebecers the truth,” explains André A. Morin to The Canadian Press. In planning it does not take into account the [immigrants] temporary, they are workers and students and there are many of them. »
He asks the new Minister of Immigration, Francisation and Integration, Jean-François Roberge to be “consistent” as soon as he takes office.
“I reiterate my request to the minister so that the Quebec population has a global and accurate picture of what is happening given the certificates issued by Quebec,” adds André A. Morin.
In the spring of 2023, the former spokesperson for the Liberal Party of Quebec (PLQ) on immigration, Monsef Derraji, tabled a bill as part of the multi-year consultation to include temporary immigrants.
The opposition deplores the fact that the Quebec acceptance certificates (CAQ) awarded each year by the province, to allow the arrival of temporary foreign workers and foreign students, are not subject to any planning.
The Ministry of Immigration, Francisation and Integration of Quebec (MIFI) did not respond to requests from The Canadian Press at the time of writing these lines.
