Immigration, RIP, anti-thug law, May 8, end of life… What to remember from the interview with Julien Odoul

The deputy for Yonne and spokesperson for the National Rally (RN) was the guest of “8:30 a.m. franceinfo”, Sunday May 7, 2023.

Julien Odoul, deputy for Yonne and spokesperson for the National Rally (RN), was the guest of “8:30 a.m. franceinfo”, Sunday May 7, 2023. Immigration, RIP, anti-thug law, May 8, end of life … He answered questions from Jules de Kiss and Hadrien Bect.

Immigration: Gérald Darmanin must “make himself very small”

Julien Odoul denounced “Mr. Darmanin’s chin blows, Mr. Darmanin’s moral lessons, given his disastrous record” in the fight against illegal immigration. “At some point, you have to make yourself very small, you have to put your head in the sand”, he added. The Interior Minister has accused the President of the Italian Council, Giorgia Meloni, of being unable to manage immigration to her country.

According to the RN MP, “The situation today obliges us to cooperate with Italy to regulate these migratory flows, to stop these phenomena which are currently overwhelming us. It is a reality”. Julien Odoul pointed out the responsibility “far left associations like SOS Méditerranée, which play the game of smugglers, who play the game of human traffickers” by saving migrants from drowning trying to cross to Europe by sea.

RIP on immigration: “No chance of success”

Two Republican MPs, Aurélien Pradié and Pierre-Henri Dumont, published a column on Saturday in the Journal du Dimanche calling for the organization of the shared initiative referendum (RIP) on immigration “following the procrastination of the executive”. “It’s not expensive because the shared initiative referendum has no chance of succeeding”reacted Julien Odoul. “It’s a democratic scam. The only valid referendum is article eleven of the Constitution. It is moreover this great referendum project that Marine Le Pen wanted to trigger, she had proposed it during his presidential campaign, he explained. According to him, “Immigration is a major subject which must be decided by the French. But the referendum of shared initiative, whether on this subject or on another, has no chance of succeeding”he says.

May 8 commemorations: “we must take a break” in the protest against the pension reform

Julien Odoul wants the French to do “pause” in the protest against the pension reform during the May 8 commemorations. “I am very attached to the respect that we owe to our ancestors, to the soldiers who fought for France. There are days like May 8 or other when we have to take a break from the level of protest. Emmanuel Macron, like all politicians, will commemorate the victory of May 8, 45, this moment must be respected”, he said. The Head of State will go to Lyon on Monday to honor Jean Moulin. Calls to demonstrate have been launched.

However, the deputy considers “Legitimate for the sovereign people to express themselves through demonstrations, pans to accompany ministerial trips. That’s part of democracy too”he said.

Anti-breakers law: “dissolution of far-left militias”

“It’s not an anti-thug law that we need, it’s quite simply the dissolution of the far left militias who have been constantly messing up the mess for years and rotting all social movements”, explained Julien Odoul. The government is preparing a new anti-thug law after the violence that punctuated the May Day parades. The Constitutional Council had challenged the previous anti-riot law in 2019, considering that the right to demonstrate could not be restricted before an offense had been committed.

The RN deputy claims “a total firmness vis-à-vis these anti-republican movements whose only political program is violence, devastation, ransacking, anti-cop hatred and hatred of our institutions”, he added. He does not rule out passing this law: “We only have one compass. It is the interest of the French, and in particular their security”he said.

End of life: the citizens’ convention has no “legitimacy”

Julien Odoul called for “a great debate on the end of life” rejecting the “legitimacy” of the Citizens’ Convention which delivered its conclusions at the beginning of April. She judged “necessary” to allow assisted suicide and euthanasia and called for “profound changes”. A law will be presented before the summer. The citizens’ convention “is not the voice of the people. They were drawn by lot. The voice of the people is expressed by the voice of its representatives or by the voice of the people themselves, by referendum”he said
