In the United Kingdom, Norland College, a nanny school, is a real institution. It has kept the scent of its origins, and its prestige still attracts apprentices.

These are the five-star nannies that high society snaps up. In the UK, Norland College has been training super nannies for over 130 years. The uniform is obligatory, and the telephone prohibited. In this hushed world, apprentices learn good manners, but also self-defense. These exceptional future nannies, who may have to work for stars, must be ready for anything, including kidnapping attempts. They are thus trained to make controlled skids in the car, but also sushi or homemade pasta.

Salaries that can exceed 10,000 euros

The school was established in 1892 by Emily Ward, a headmistress who wanted to protect wealthy Englishmen from overqualified nannies, to replace the illiterate servants of the time. The whole aristocracy is then seduced. Boris Johnson’s nanny graduated from Norland College, as did that of William and Kate’s children. Two French students have embarked on the course, at more than 60,000 euros. “We feel very privileged”says one of them.

At the end of the day, the salaries are excellent. “The average salary of our graduates, one year after leaving school, is 3,500 euros per month. And over time, this can rise to more than 10,000 euros per month”, assures Dr. Janet Rose, principal of Norland College. The employment rate is 100%.
