On the road to Kherson (Ukraine), traces of fierce fighting are everywhere, Saturday, October 8. Four days ago, the Russian army reigned supreme here, before suddenly retreating before the Ukrainian offensive. For the first time in this area, a group of volunteers comes to distribute food to civilians. “It’s good to feel that we have liberated our territory. But I think I will cry when I hear the testimonies of people who lived through the occupation”says a volunteer.

Ukraine claims to have taken over 500 km2 of territory. The inhabitants entrust their relief to see the clashes move away from a few kilometers. “The last few days, it was hell in the streets. There was constant bombardment”, explains a resident. At the exit of a village, Ukrainian soldiers hold their positions, while demining operations are in progress.
