Figure of soul and folk recognized internationally, singer-songwriter Imany experiments with the magic of cellos with a third album of covers, “Voodoo Cello”.
Model in a former life, the singer Imany, known for titles like You Will Never Know Where Don’t Be So Shyhas decided to put cellos in the spotlight in a spellbinding new cover album, Voodoo Cello. “The cello is a magical, mystical instrument. You really have the impression that there is a kind of spirit, of soul inside, hidden and which expresses itself in various ways”, explains the singer on the 23h set of Franceinfo. With his only voice accompanied by 8 cellists, it is a daring project to which has indulged the singer, with the challenge of making the singularity of each instrument felt.
Several generations of titles that marked the singer follow one another like Madonna, Ed Sheeran, Hozier, or even a Comorian cover of Wild World by Cat Stevens. “What I motivated that’s really the strength of the song. It wasn’t so much the artists. The melody had to be strong and the text, I can defend it like I got it writing“confides Imany. The singer will be in concert at the Grand Rex in Paris on June 8 and 9, June 15 in Mulhouse, July 15 in Monaco before giving performances in London.
