The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) is currently carrying out a vast search operation on both shores of the Québec region, in connection with a vehicle theft network carrying out its activities mainly in the MRC de Bellechasse.

Police officers from the Major Crimes Investigation Division are making seizures and arrests in connection with the theft of around 50 cars, according to SQ spokeswoman Béatrice Dorsainville.

Interventions take place in the sectors of Sainte-Foy, Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures and La Durantaye.

The operation, which stems from an investigation initiated last March, mobilizes more than 60 members of the police.
The objective of the Sûreté is “to accumulate material evidence” in order to justify the arrest of “suspects involved in the criminal organization”.

During a joint operation, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) and the Canada Border Services Agency found 17 stolen vehicles at the Port of Montreal. The total value of the vehicles was estimated at $800,000.

The vehicles recovered by authorities were, for the most part, luxury sport utility vehicles (SUVs). They were presumably intended to be sold abroad.
