“I’m not afraid of a dissolution”, says Olivier Faure, but “I would prefer a referendum”

“As long as there are demonstrations at the call of the inter-union, we will be there”, assures the First Secretary of the Socialist Party.

“The real sign (of the government) is the withdrawal of the text or it is the return to the people, that is to say the dissolution or the referendum”, said Tuesday, March 28 on franceinfo the First Secretary of the Socialist Party, as the tenth day of mobilization against the pension reform begins. Olivier Faure assures that he has no “not afraid of a dissolution” of the National Assembly, despite the Ifop/Fiducial poll for the JDD and Sud Radio, published on Sunday, which gives 26% of the votes to the National Rally in the event of new legislative elections.

“When the President of the Republic does not want to back down by withdrawing, we must give the floor to the French”, by dissolution or referendum, insists the deputy of Seine-et-Marne. But “I would prefer there to be a referendum”says Olivier Faure. “To break the impasse, we need a referendum, so that the French can say yes or no to retirement at 64”.

The First Secretary of the Socialist Party is also awaiting the response of the Constitutional Council, chaired by Laurent Fabius, former First Secretary of the PS. The Elders must decide around April 15 on the pension reform. “I have nothing to say to the Constitutional Council, which is supposed to be completely independent”assures Olivier Faure, but “he has every reason to invalidate this project”. The member points the finger at the “conditions for the adoption of the text”, with “the addition 47-1, 44-2, 44-3, article 38 of the rules of the Senate, then the recourse to 49-3”.

“Everyone will accept the decision of the Constitutional Council”he concedes but there will remain, according to him, a “problem of political legitimacy”. If the text is validated, “We will continue to demonstrate,” says Olivier Faure. “As long as there are demonstrations at the call of the inter-union, we will be there”.
