Illumi lights up summer nights

Illumi’s light structures in Laval are now on. Many visitors had told its creator, Normand Latourelle, that they were too cold during their winter walk. This is what convinced him to create this summer course which will be open to the public until August 7th.

According to Normand Latourelle, the summer experience is very different from that of the winter months. “In winter, there are blankets of snow, but above all there is the cold. In summer, people take much longer to visit. There are also many sculptures that are made to be climbed on, and people can take pictures near them. »

A total of 25 million LED bulbs were used to light up the 3 km night course. The trip can be done on foot as well as by car. Along the path, visitors can contemplate 19 paintings, including 14 new light structures.

The observatory, new to the tour, allows people to get an unobstructed view of the lights of Illumi. “Every 15 minutes, for one minute, all the ‘worlds’ turn on and off. The huge LED screen transforms into a psychedelic visual. It’s a kind of inverted fireworks,” describes Normand Latourelle.

Mr. Latourelle describes his current favorite at Illumi: the world of snow. “It’s like a snowstorm, but instead of getting snow, you get light. We walk through a million twinkling LED bulbs. We added gnomes, an ice fort, frescoes that represent winter and a bunch of stalagmites, with two beached whales. »

“It’s the largest shaft of light in the world. It is 155 feet. The height is equivalent to that of the Statue of Liberty if its base is removed. »

Normand Latourelle has decided to reduce admission ticket prices this summer. The price of a ticket for the walking experience has been reduced from $31.75 to $20. “We are currently being bombarded with prices that are rising everywhere. We are here to please people. »

The creator and producer believes that Illumi is for everyone and appeals to children and adults alike. “It’s very multi-ethnic, which is a satisfaction for me. We succeeded with Illumi in removing all the barriers of language and culture. A next light circuit will open in Toronto in September.
