Motorist seriously injured after being hit in the neck by a hunter saturday 30 October on a road in Ille-et-Vilaine died of his injuries, Thursday, November 4. The author of the shooting was indicted for manslaughter.

The 67-year-old motorist was driving on a national road in Ille-et-Vilaine, between Rennes and Nantes when a bullet hit him in the neck on Saturday, October 30. Hospitalized in a critical situation, he finally succumbed to his injuries Thursday, November 4 at the Rennes University Hospital (Ille-et-Vilaine). The bullet, of three millimeter caliber, was fired by a hunter in a surrounding forest. The 69-year-old man was quickly arrested and charged with manslaughter.

The drama brings hunting accidents back to the fore. Even if their number has been declining steadily for 20 years, they still cause around 20 deaths per year. The sensitive subject was broached by the elected representatives of the Rennes metropolitan area. They demand from the State more controls of practices and time slots to limit the risk of accidents “We have met several hunters who are up for having half-day bans, on Saturdays and Sunday afternoons for example”, specifies Michel Demolder, mayor of Pont-Péan (Ille-et-Vilaine). The Ministry of Ecological Transition is also considering the outright ban on hunting on weekends and during school holidays.
