Île d’Orléans: a snowmobiler loses his life in a swerve

A man in his forties lost his life in a snowmobile swerve that occurred very late Thursday evening in the municipality of Sainte-Famille on the island of Orleans, in Quebec.

The victim, who was driving around 11:30 p.m. off-road in a field near Avenue Royale, reportedly lost control of his vehicle before violently hitting a pole.


Seriously injured, the 40-year-old was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead, said Hélène St-Pierre, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).


SQ snowmobilers and a collision investigation police officer were dispatched to the scene to try to determine the circumstances surrounding this fatal swerve, it was added.
