Several villages in Morocco are in an emergency situation, after the collapse of a large part of the houses. The point with Nicolas Bertrand, live from Ijoukak, closer to the epicenter of the disaster.

“It took us all afternoon to get here, whereas normally it would have taken barely an hour by car. The reason is the state of the roads which have literally disappeared in places, due to landslides and landslides”reports Nicolas Bertrand, live from Ijoukak (Morocco).

A few kilometers from the epicenter of the earthquake, the damage is enormous. In the villages, some houses resisted, but most were swept away. Seen from the sky, these homes are nothing more than piles of bricks, beams and sheet metal. A farm, one of the largest in the village of Ijoukak, was 7 meters high. Nothing remains of it.

No help

Mohamed lived there with 13 other people from his family. He lost two that night. The most astonishing thing was that the building seemed solid. It certainly didn’t meet seismic standards, but it wasn’t traditional construction like some of the houses in the neighborhood either. Today, the survivors of Mohamed’s family have settled under trees, a few meters away, where they are preparing to spend a third night. For the moment, Mohamed says he has received no help, no relief. It must be said that the roads leading to his village were blocked by numerous landslides. The excavators try to advance, meter by meter.
