“The British know it, the ball is in their court”, said Clément Beaune, Monday, November 29 on France Inter concerning the dispute over fishing licenses in the Channel and the post-Brexit agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom. While negotiations are to continue on Monday November 29 and Wednesday December 1, the Secretary of State for European Affairs promises “to do the accounts” at the end of the week. “If there has not been a massive gesture by December 10, we will stop this dialogue” he said, referring to the ultimatum imposed by the European Commission on the British government, “a deadline, precise and public”.

In this conflict around the fishing licenses granted to French fishermen, Clément Beaune denounced the lack of will and efforts undertaken by the English. “I’ll be very honest, it’s way too slow and the pace isn’t there”, he blasted about the number of licenses granted (960 but France is asking for 150 more). According to him, the British demand “documents, details for fishermen not provided for in the agreement”.
“By December 10, we hope for a full settlement of this matter”, added the Secretary of State for European Affairs. “Unfortunately, I believe the failure of Brexit is masked by a smokescreen of making Europe a daily punching bag”, lamented Clément Beaune.
