The editorial “The end of silence”, by Louise-Maude Rioux Soucy, allows us to reflect on the suffering of women, in this case immigrants, and to feel compassion, if of course we have enough heart left to be moved and come out of our ruts smug and satisfied. In the case in question, we must hear a universal message, the story where violence reigns, where cruel machismo is revealed: “I wanted to be able to get a work permit. […] It had become unbearable in the house, but I stayed anyway,” says the woman who asked to be called Caroline, given that her license was linked to that of her husband. Thank you to journalists Sarah R. Champagne and Félix Deschênes for informing us about the unspeakable ordeal of these women, because it is a question of neither more nor less abuse, the monstrous effects of abuse, this terror: “Because it This is what is instilled by the violent person: “You are going to be deported to your country, you can’t do anything, you have no rights here”,” explains Mayranie Lacasse, coordinator of Inter-Val 1175. This is indeed an abominable terror experienced by these immigrants. We read their testimony like a bad tale, we feel the whole nightmare.
