During the last two elections in Quebec, the Coalition Avenir Québec experienced moments of grace. In 2018, François Legault was brought to power while the CAQ obtained an overwhelming majority with 90 deputies in 2022.
Less than two years after undeniable success, polls and projections show us that times have changed since François Legault won a second mandate.
Now, when we see the poor performance of the CAQ, we can wonder if Mr. Legault will be able to get back on track.

In 2022, voters gave the CAQ a second mandate because the first was mainly devoted to the pandemic. But this new mandate came with extremely high expectations and voters are currently disappointed.
Quebecers realized that the CAQ was not going to deliver the goods. The announcement of the cancellation of the third link was the beginning of the end.
Many were disappointed in the Quebec region while those outside the Capitale-Nationale began to wonder if the members of the Legault government were people they could trust.

Reflection
The latest polls will inevitably mean that François Legault will slowly, but surely, begin to reflect on his own future.
Before the holiday season, he said he was going to run if his health allowed him and if Quebecers still wanted him. On the first point, everything seems to be in good shape. On the second point, let’s say that it is less clear.
Mr. Legault created the CAQ to take power. Mission accomplished. But does he want the CAQ to stand the test of time? The question is valid.
However, Mr. Legault’s departure in the short term would likely spell the end of his party.
