Ice storms and power outages | Six emergency shelters open in Montreal

The City of Montreal announced the opening of six temporary emergency shelters for people without electricity from 9 p.m. Thursday evening.


These shelters will allow the Montreal population to warm up and spend the night, explained the City of Montreal in a press release published Thursday. They were established in collaboration with the Red Cross. They are open from 9 p.m. Thursday evening.

Six temporary shelters open in Montreal

  • Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce — Côte-des-Neiges Sports Center: 4880 avenue Van-Horne
  • Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce — Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Sports Center: 6445 Monkland Avenue
  • Saint-Léonard — Saint-Antoine d’Exupery School 5150 Bd Robert
  • Verdun — Marcel-Giroux Community Center 4501 Bannantyne Avenue
  • Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension — Lasallian Center (community center) 3001 Rue de Louvain E
  • Mercier–Hochelaga—Maisonneuve – Center Pierre-Charbonneau 3000 Rue Viau

Moreover, “Montreal is hard at work on the ground to ensure the safety of the population as well as the fluidity of travel,” indicated the City.

“The Montreal Fire Department recommends that people who use space heaters pay particular attention to carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning,” the City also specifies.
