Strong winds are expected to batter southwestern Quebec Friday morning, two days after the powerful ice storm caused widespread outages. However, the risk of further damage remains minimal.

“The risks were higher today because of the ice which added weight to the branches,” explained Dominic Morin, meteorologist at Environment Canada, in an interview with the QMI Agency.
Indeed, the temperatures having reached eight degrees – or even more – during the day on Thursday, the ice was able to melt on all the sectors affected, estimates Mr. Morin. So, even if we risk having gusts of up to 60 km/h, there is little chance of seeing more damage while the Hydro-Québec teams are working to restore power to the many customers without electricity.
