It won by decision of the referee at 7e round against the Mexican Cynthia Lozano.

The smiling boxer was however moved in the ring, a few seconds after her victory.

“It’s really incredible as a feeling,” she reacted.

It was aimed at the 3,920 people gathered at the Bell Center.

“I had the impression that there were 10,000,” she illustrated later in a press conference. With these spectators, there were so many emotions. […] I’m glad I experienced this moment in front of my people in front of a happy, excited crowd. ”

“I gave the fight of my life because I became world champion again and got my first knockout. ”, She also declared.

The outcome of the fight will not have long been in doubt. Dicaire continued, round after round, strikes with power. Lozano’s responses lacked vigor and volume.

“It was just wow,” said Marie-Eve Dicaire’s trainer, Stéphane Harnois, at a press conference. [Lozano] was a determined girl. Yes, it’s true, she’s not the greatest technique, but she brings her opponents to exhaustion. ”

“She’s in your face all the time, no matter how hard you hit it, she continued,” he added.

Harnois was however happy to see that his Mexican counterpart, in the corner of Lozano, had the audacity to stop the fight.

“I went to see him and told him he had done a very good job,” he revealed. It’s nice to want a knockout, but you have to protect the athletes. ”

We also learned during the press conference that Marie-Eve Dicaire had suffered a rib injury a month before the fight.

“It was the worst time of my life,” she said. While she only needed a little rest, her preparation was affected.

“Getting ready for a world championship when you can’t do what you usually do, it breaks your morale. ”

Dicaire’s record is now 18-1-0. This is the first career loss for Lozano (9-1-0, 7 K. -O.).

The Quebec boxer, ranked no 1 at the IBF, lost her world title in her only career loss to American Claressa Shields in March. The latter had left the title vacant after her change of division.

Dicaire thus became the third Quebec pugilist only to have regained his belt after losing it, after Lou Brouillard (1933) and Jean Pascal (2019).

Kim clavel

Kim Clavel was present at the Bell Center on Friday evening to make the announcement: her WBC half-fly world championship fight will finally take place on March 11 at the Casino de Montreal. Clavel stepped into the ring between two sub-card fights to make the announcement.

She was originally scheduled to fight Friday night against Mexico’s Yesenia Gomez, but her fight was postponed after she suffered an injury in training. She had experienced “like the end of the world” the cancellation of her fight a few weeks before December 17, she told us last week on the phone. But back in training, she felt she was going to “get there even more solid”.
