“I am deeply concerned about the difficult and stressful situation in which the personnel of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant find themselves and the potential risks this poses for nuclear security”has warned Rafael Grossi, head of the IAEA. PMore than 200 technicians and guards are stuck at the site, working 13 days in a row under Russian surveillance. The body asked Moscow to allow them to rotate, rest and fixed schedules being essential to the safety of the site. Faced with this situation, Rafael Grossi reiterated his offer to go to the site, or elsewhere, to obtain from all parties a “commitment to safety and security” Ukrainian power plants.

The Russian army has occupied another nuclear site since Friday, that of Zaporijia, in the south-east of Ukraine. This plant was set on fire after Russian strikes according to Kiev, but Moscow denies this accusation. The website “works normally”asserted a Russian National Guard official in videos published by the Russian news agency RIA Novosti. “The site administration is fulfilling its duties. The situation is fully controlled by the Russian National Guard”he added.
