For nearly an hour, Pierre Antoine Capton participated in the last program of the year 2021 of 100% Stade Malherbe. The opportunity to take a tour of the different subjects around the SM Caen with the chairman of the supervisory board of the Norman football club.
The Mercato
“We had a discussion all together again this afternoon (Monday) for two hours to take stock of the last few months. Olivier (Pickeu) will give you the information but it is true that we had long lasting injuries . Stéphane Moulin has put on paper his needs for January. We are going to work on it but I think that there will undoubtedly be small ones or a small additional addition. Adolphe Teikeu has arrived. We are very happy that he can join the club from the beginning of January and maybe Olivier will announce a good surprise for the start of the school year. “
The goal of going back up
“This is the goal we have set for ourselves. Now it’s a long time. I would have loved it to happen this year. I think that the fundamental work that we are doing which is not visible to the supporters but which is essential has started on the right track. I unfortunately recall that the club underwent a social plan last year which was essential, that we left in a sporting situation which was catastrophic.
Now we are in the process of rebuilding ourselves. Stéphane Moulin is a chance for Stade Malherbe Caen. He’s a great trainer with a great staff. He knows what he’s doing. It was also difficult for him to adapt. It’s not easy when, after so many years in Angers, you land in Caen. But it is the man in whom we have complete confidence and who is building a project in which we believe. Now we have to give him the squad and the players he needs, but the objective remains the same.
For me, Stade Malherbe Caen is a Ligue 1 club and must return. “
And why not Free as a sponsor of the SMC?
“We have a sponsor who arrived this year – Starwash – and we are very happy. And Xavier Niel does not have a club and does not sponsor football but I hope to be the first to bring him in one day.”
Could SM Caen be the subject of a documentary series?
“You know, that was one of the first discussions we had with Vincent Catherine, the French boss of Oaktree. It was to do a series on Caen. We couldn’t have written a screenplay like that. It was impossible to screen it and it would undoubtedly have made a very good documentary.
We would have laughed at us a lot because between the confidence we needed to have at the start and the state we were in after the last match against Clermont, there was really a big gap.
But I think that we must first do some groundwork and then once the club is going well and we are better we can start filming. But I would love to do a documentary series on the Stade Malherbe Caen and that is one of the projects that may see the light of day in the coming years, that’s for sure. “
The move to eighteen clubs in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2
“As you know, we suffered Médiapro, we suffered COVID and therefore there was less and less money for football clubs. So we had to compress the whole a bit. So there is also a solution so that the National may become a sort of Ligue 3. There are a lot of elements which will be put in place and which are being debated. But afterwards, the competition is the competition. Malherbe Caen must be in the top eighteen clubs in France? I think so. What is certain is that he must be in the top thirty-six in France and that he must also be in the top ten. eight.
It’s up to us to prove ourselves and the players to show that they are the most competitive and the best. We voted for this reform like 90% of Ligue 2 clubs. “
