Lola Quivoron would even like Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, who has made the fight against urban rodeos one of his priorities, to see his film. The director calls for “find solutions that are not only repressive”.
For Lola Quivoron, Rodeo can enable policy makers working on these issues to understand “what is this passion called cross bitumen and which involves a lot of young people”. She explains that she was inspired in particular by the collective Dirty Riderz Crew “who is already working to unclog cities from excesses” and offers to “to connect” association and politics, “with the idea of opening paved roads or being more in prevention and information”.
“What I show in the film, again, are not urban rodeos. It’s highly written fiction with a form of homage to Hollywood flamboyance.”

Rodeo was awarded the Jury’s Favorite “Un certain regard” at the Cannes Film Festival 2022, in May. On the Croisette, the 33-year-old director sparked controversy by claiming that accidents during urban rodeos were “often caused by cops chasing and pushing riders to death”. Words taken out of context, she then explained, ensuring not to make “general” and calling for interest in the passion of young riders which today generates “a lot of a priori, fear and rejection”.
