It’s hard to forget 21 years of his life in a few months. In an interview with the Catalan daily Sport, PSG striker Lionel Messi returned to the bond that still unites him with Barça, three months after his departure from the Spanish club. “When I watch the matches, I remember moments, matches at Camp Nou, with the public, says Lionel Messi. Last summer, the Argentinian had to leave Catalonia due to Barca’s financial difficulties, unable to pay his salary, even divided by half. This is what my wife wants and what I want too. I do not know if it will be directly after the end of my contract with Paris, but we will come back to live in Barcelona.“.
And a possible return to Barça, but in the organizational chart of the club. “I always said I would like to help the club in some way, says Messi. I would love to be a technical director at some point. I don’t know if it will be at FC Barcelona or not. Or if it will be some other way. But if there is a possibility, I would love to help the club again, because it is the club that I love and I want it to stay on top and keep growing.“
But retirement is not yet on the agenda for Messi. “No. Sincerely, no (I’m not thinking of retirement, Editor’s note). After what happened to me, I live day by day, year after year, insists Messi. I don’t know what will happen at the World Cup (in Qatar in December 2022) or after the World Cup. I do not think about it. It will happen what it will have to happen then“.
