The Quebecer wants Canada to do well there and not just play a role as an extra in Qatar. Piette even goes so far as to say that he would like Canada to be part of the “group of death”.
“I would like to be in the group of death and face great nations like France, Spain or England,” he said in an interview on the JiC show on Monday, after “a short night”, by his own admission.
“What we have accomplished is huge and historic, but I know it’s only the beginning,” continued Piette. We are not afraid of anything. Why not compete against the biggest countries in this sport and see how good a team we are? I can’t wait for the draw. We are excited about this qualification, but the objective is to do well at the World Cup.
Twenty-four hours later, Piette had still not come down from his cloud.
“I’m still on the high! It’s crazy what happened! It was an amazing and special moment. I am very honored to be part of this team,” he said, his voice hoarse from the celebrations the day before in Toronto.
The CF Montreal midfielder admitted he doesn’t yet realize the magnitude of the accomplishment.
“I was very emotional after the game, and I still am today. The emotions are different, but I don’t realize it yet. The dust will settle quietly, we will realize it as we approach the World Cup.
like a family
According to Piette, it is thanks to the family spirit that reigns within the workforce that Canada won its pass for the World Cup, which will be played from November 21 to December 18.
“This is not the story of a single player, but of all the players called up for selection. Everyone contributed in their own way. John Herdman and his staff have done an incredible job of making all players feel included.
“We are a family, we are close to each other. It is thanks to this family bond, of fraternity, that we obtained our place.
Even though he is injured, Piette was able to witness this historic moment on the spot, at the invitation of Herdman. A gesture he greatly appreciated.
“John messaged me asking if I wanted to come. I was touched to see that he had thought of me. This gesture proves that he thinks of all the actors and that we are a family.
Moreover, Piette described the appointment of former Impact player Gabriel Gervais as president and CEO of CF Montreal as a “great hire”.
