“I work about 50 hours a week, and I treat 50 patients a day”

After months of mobilization, liberal nurses continue to demand an increase in their rates, which have not been increased for 15 years. Like Émilie Séhili, a liberal nurse in Gennevilliers (Hauts-de-Seine), whom we followed on her daily tour. Put on your sneakers, his day is exhausting.

Emilie Séhili’s working day starts at 6:30 a.m., at a time when no one is wide awake and in a good mood. Except this liberal nurse : “OI’m used to it, it’s the start of our days, it can even be worseshe says with a laugh. I don’t finish that late, 6 p.m.“.”Ah anyway“, we point out to him. “It’s not going to exceed three days in a row, but it’s not bad, because that’s three times 12 hours of work“.

Driving her car, she arrives after a few minutes in front of the first patient’s home. He is diabetic : blood sugar control, an injection, and Émilie Séhili has already left. She has a succession of patients, six in an hour. “See you later“, she said to one with a smile, “Good luck“, says another.

“It’s very sporty”

The stairwells, the digital codes, the courtyards of buildings, it’s a race. “And it will continue like this all day”, she said, starting her car again. “Walking up the stairs, sometimes up to 6e floor, every day, back and forth and sometimes even visiting the same patient several times a day, it’s very sporty“, recognizes Samantha Jean, student nurse who accompanies Émilie Séhili on her tour that day.

It’s 8 a.m., it’s not yet dawn, and we arrive at the home of a new patient. “I really like this hour when life begins in the streets of Gennevilliers. We meet children going to school. It’s harder to bear on weekends.

“On Sundays, we liberal nurses feel really alone. There are only us in the streets, with the garbage collectors and the cleaning ladies.”

Between two patients, Emilie Séhili takes stock of her remuneration. “For a simple injection, I will earn 7 euros gross. To calculate the net, after removing the charges, you must divide by two. Or 3.50 euros. For a bandage it will be 6.30 euros without travel. So with the patient for whom I just made a dressing, I barely gained 3.15 net euros. While I stayed at her house for 20 minutes“These acts have not been revalued for 15 years.”I can afford 2 500 euros per month. Certainly, we earn a good living, but we must report it in proportion to the hours worked in the field. I work about 50 hours a week, and I care for 50 patients a day“.

If Émilie Séhili is in good shape today, she assures that she will not make it until retirement, 67 years old. “My joints won’t last 20 more years“, she says. She is already thinking about a career change.
