“I will always follow the rules of the Constitution” assures Jair Bolsonaro

Jair Bolsonaro implicitly recognized Lula’s victory in the Brazilian presidential election on Monday evening. The outgoing President undertakes to “respect the Constitution” after his defeat, he assured in a quick speech, his first speech since the second round of the election, 48 hours earlier.

He, always implicitly, called for appeasement and asked for the lifting of roadblocks, believing that the demonstrations must be “peaceful” and condemning the dams which “prevent freedom of movement” in almost the whole country.

The current president, who will remain in office until January, spoke for three minutes. He did not congratulate Lula but thanked “the millions of Brazilians” who brought their voices to him, and he evoked a “feeling of injustice” about the conduct of the electoral process. His chief of staff then succeeded him at the desk to announce “begin the transition process”.
