Michel Barnier, Europe and World adviser to Valérie Pécresse, believes that there are “differences” between Emmanuel Macron’s program and that of candidate LR on European issues.
While France has been chairing the Council of the European Union since January 1, and Emmanuel Macron has established his priorities for the next six months such as the digital transition, the constitution of a Europe of Health, the overhaul of Schengen, Michel Barnier, adviser France and Europe in the World of Valérie Pécresse assures him: “I was European before him (…) and these are ideas that we defend, that I defended”.
Asked about the differences that the former European Commissioner and former candidate for the primary of the Les Républicains party has with the Head of State on Europe, Michel Barnier replied that there are “differences on certain subjects” like “nuclear energy, that it is not considered by the European Commission as clean energy and not allow all the investments that are allowed for renewable energies”. Michel Barnier would like “France be intransigent with this question of nuclear energy which is our chance”.
Michel Barnier also assures that he disagrees with Emmanuel Macron on “an orientation of the Commission which would like the decrease in agricultural matters. We need to preserve the food sovereignty of our continent”.
Valérie Pécresse will detail her international program on franceinfo on the occasion of presidential mornings. She will be Franceinfo’s guest on Monday January 10 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and will answer questions from the editorial staff.
